Ventura College Promise Program Overview

The Ventura College Promise helps first-time, full-time students by covering key fees during their first two years at Ventura College.

What is the VC Promise?

The VC Promise supports students by covering essential fees, such as:

Enrollment Fee
Health Fee
Student Center Fee
Student Representative Fee

This program is available to full-time students enrolled in 12 or more units each Fall and Spring semester at Ventura College. (Note: Units taken at Oxnard or Moorpark College are not covered.)

Eligibility Requirements for First-Year VC Promise

To qualify for the First-Year VC Promise, students must meet the following criteria:

Apply to Ventura College
Be a first-time college student (Note: Previous high school classes or AP scores do not affect eligibility)
Complete the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application
Be a California resident or AB 540 student
Enroll full-time (12+ units) for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 at Ventura College

Important Notes:

Summer 2024 fees may be waived for students who enroll in 12+ units (as long as the student is enrolled for the following term, Fall 2024).
Eligibility criteria may change, and some exceptions may apply.

Steps for New Students

Before starting your studies, we recommend completing these steps to help you succeed:

Complete the Online Ventura College Orientation – Learn about campus resources and academic expectations.
Submit Official Transcripts – Send your high school transcripts, AP scores, and any prior college credits to Admissions and Records.
Attend the My Academic Plan (MAP) Workshop – This workshop helps you choose courses based on your academic goals.
Meet with an Academic Counselor – After completing the MAP workshop, schedule a session to get personalized course recommendations.

Eligibility for Second-Year VC Promise

To qualify for the Second-Year VC Promise, students must:

Have received the First-Year VC Promise
Maintain full-time enrollment (12+ units) for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025
Complete the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application
Be a California resident or AB 540 student

Academic Standards for Second Year

To maintain eligibility for the Second-Year VC Promise, students must meet the following academic standards:

GPA: Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
Course Completion: Successfully complete at least 67% of attempted courses

How to Maintain Your VC Promise

To continue receiving VC Promise funding, students must meet the following requirements each year:

Renew Your Application
- Complete the FAFSA or California Dream Act application annually.
Stay Enrolled Full-Time
- Enroll in 12+ units for both Fall and Spring semesters.
Meet Academic Standards
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA across all courses.
- Successfully complete at least 67% of attempted courses.
- If you do not meet these standards, your funding may be canceled for the following academic year. Summer coursework can help you get back on track and recover your eligibility.

Grades That Count Toward Your Completion Rate:

Completed Coursework includes:
- Grades: A, B, C, D, P (Pass), CR (Credit), CRE (Credit by Exam).
Non-Completed Coursework includes:
- Grades: F (Fail), I (Incomplete), IP (In Progress), W (Withdrawal), EW (Excused Withdrawal), MW (Military Withdrawal), NC (No Credit), NP (No Pass), RD (Record Delayed).
Note: All grades (including non-completed ones) are counted as attempted units.

What Happens If You Don’t Meet the Requirements?

If you fail to meet the GPA or course completion standards, your VC Promise funding for the following academic year may be canceled.

Option to Recover:

You may be able to use summer coursework to improve your GPA or course completion rate and maintain your eligibility for the VC Promise.

How Do I Know If I’ve Received the VC Promise?

Check your MyVCCCD student portal 7-10 days after meeting the eligibility criteria for your VC Promise award.
You will also receive an email with your Financial Aid Offer once your award is posted.
